The idea of quick and east meals that are both simple and delicious does not have to be the thing of nightmares. In fact Recipe Critique will teach you how they can be created using 3 ingredients or less. The need to incorporate numerous varied ingredients to create a mouth-watering dish is not necessary. Combining simple and delicious can be as easy as one, two, three – three ingredients, that is.

The trick is simple. Begin by selecting you base food such as fresh fish, lean chicken or turkey, or maybe some lamb. Combine that with some whole grains and a side vegetable and you have created a healthy, nutritious meal using three ingredients or less.

An example of this type of simple and delicious cooking would be to combine some chicken breasts with lemons and garlic. Season with salt and pepper to taste, cover with plastic wrap and marinate in your refrigerator. The chicken will absorb the lovely flavor of the combination of lemon and garlic. The following evening, all you have to do is take 2 cups spinach; chop it up, and sauté in some whole pressed extra virgin olive oil and 1 small chopped onion, adding salt to taste. Cook the chicken breasts for approximately three to five minutes per side, using your judgement, until they are cooked through to your liking. Typically when they are lightly browned and no longer pink in the middle, your chicken is done. When the spinach is lightly wilted, pour the sautéed spinach atop a bowl of hot rice, mixing well. Blending well causes the olive oil and onion to flavor the rice, too. Place the marinated lemon chicken on top and you have a meal using spinach, rice, and chicken that is quick, easy, healthy and delicious.

This method of cooking also lends itself to a healthier eating habit. You can incorporate many different methods with the three ingredients of less menu plan that can save you both time and money. For example, try batch cooking. This is one of my favorite methods as it saves tons of time on busy week nights.  In my case I will often cook enough chicken to be able to prepare two or three quick easy weeknight meals. With batch cooking in mind, I am also able to do better bulk shopping. With a subscription to a wholesale market you can save some serious money bulk buying.

With a little creativity, pre-planning, and preparation three ingredients or less can product some seriously simple and delicious meals.  Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Vegetable lasagna made with whole grain pasta
  • Creamy tomato soup
  • Avocado and pear salad
  • Chicken and broccoli over rice
  • Desserts with whole fruits such as peach cobbler or apple tarts, sweet potato pie
  • Beef and pepper tacos
  • Beef with broccoli
  • Beef with stir fry vegetables

You will need to keep a good stock of herbs and spices. This will allow you to infuse some serious flavors into your recipes.  Fresh herbs are a nice addition to any meal and are easy to grow at home. All you need is a window box or patio area that is easily accessible for watering. You can start from seeds, but it was quicker and easier for me to purchase a select few small pots to start.  I keep basil, thyme, rosemary, cilantro and oregano. I often feel a sense of pride when I go outside to snip some fresh herbs.  This may be something you really enjoy doing.

As you can see here, the possibilities are endless. All it takes is a little creativity, imagination and three ingredients or less.
